Micheal Porter, Jr is the biggest enigma of the NBA Draft. After finishing his senior season in high school, Porter would have likely been a top 3 pick in the NBA draft had he been able to declare.
He suffered a serious back injury in his first college game that caused him to miss most of the season. Although he did come back and play in the SEC and NCAA tournament, he did not appear to have the explosion and movement he had prior to the injury. Uncertainly about his long-term health has made some teams at the top of the draft order potentially gun shy about taking him.
However according to Sam Amick of USA Today, the Memphis Grizzlies are “seriously considering” taking Porter Jr. with the number four overall pick.
As reported by Jonathan Givony of ESPN.com, Friday Porter was set to work out for NBA teams but the work out was cancelled to a hip injury.
Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania reported that an MRI done on Porter, Jr. came back with a “positive review.”
Porter, Jr. still took part in an invitation-only medical exam for ball clubs in Chicago.
It was reported by Sacramento ABC10’s Sean Cunningham the evaluation went well.
